100th Day of School & Valentine's Day!

Monday, February 13, 2012 was the 100th Day of School!!  In honor of the 100th Day of School and Valentine's Day...

The First Grade Math Classroom made 100 Math Valentine Day Cards for the Good Samaritan Society! They
included Valentine Math Story Problems, Equations, Math Mountains, Picture Graphs and love!  On Valentines Day we walked the 100 cards to the Society!

I was so impressed with the First Graders while they handed out each Valentine card!  We received huge thank you's and love!

Unit 6

Unit 6: February 7 - March 6
Comparisons and Data Formats

Unit 6 reviews and builds on children's understanding of comparing numbers.  Children are introduced to picture graphs, tables and calibrated units.  Use of these graphic representations help children see information in a way that makes comparisons clear and visual.  As children discuss relationships such as how many more and how two amounts can be made equal, they develop precision in mathematical expression.

Grade 1 Skills:
- Read, make and use picture graphs and tables to compare data.
- Solve comparison story problems.
- Measure and compare length to the nearest inch.
